Over a quarter of a million tickets were delivered by mobile to football fans and controlled over the space of just two and a half weeks as UEFA switched to a digital-only ticket policy for their recent national and club competition finals

For the first time, tickets for this year’s UEFA Europa Conference League Final, UEFA Europa League Final, the UEFA Nations League Finals 4 matches, plus the UEFA Champions League Final were all issued as mobile digital tickets.

There were no thermal or ‘print-at-home’ tickets. Instead, over 280,000 tickets were downloaded by fans through the UEFA ticketing app, powered by TIXNGO, the secure mobile ticketing solution from UEFA’s ticketing technology provider, SECUTIX.

Mobile tickets were delivered to all members of the general public, supporters of the two teams, guests of the sponsors, football family members, and all hospitality customers.

The app helped from a security standpoint, with UEFA able to identify every fan attending, using their contact details which they needed to upload into the app to access their ticket. Ticket QR-codes appeared in the UEFA app on fans’ phones four hours before kick-off, even on phones that were offline.

Digital ticketing also allowed for better communication with fans by using push notifications through the app, for example, reminding fans of the no re-entry policy once they entered the stadium.

Frédéric Longatte, CEO of SECUTIX said:

“These are some of the most prestigious events in the sporting calendar, and we were delighted that our digital innovation helped to deliver a positive ticketing experience. The hard work and dedication of both the UEFA and SECUTIX teams has set a high standard for future events.”
