Klavierfestival Ruhr choses an innovative ticketing future

The world-renowned Klavierfestival Ruhr has appointed SecuTix as its Ticketing Technology Provider to help deliver a modern and digital customer experience.

Klavierfestival Ruhr showcases digital and hybrid concerts

The Klavierfestival Ruhr is the most important piano festival in the world. Launched to provide a stage for the great pianists of our time, it traditionally presents artists across a series of 70 concerts between April and July. Its innovative and sustainable education programme has also been awarded several international prizes.

Alongside world-famous musicians, promising young talents and début artists are also featured, and given a place in the coveted concert calendar which welcomes more than 50,000 visitors every year.

The pandemic and coronavirus-related lockdowns hit the Festival, but it also gave the team the chance to re-evaluate. Festival Director Professor Franz Xaver Ohnesorg and his team developed alternatives, and in 2021, the festival started at the end of May with five streaming concerts that were viewed over 54,000 times. Happily, since June 2021, the Festival has returned with live concerts.

The path to a flexible, innovative ticketing solution

The digital offer from SecuTix has allowed the Festival a greater degree of flexibility to meet the wishes and needs of its customers. The Klavierfestival Ruhr can also now connect and interact with a range of third-party systems. With these new functions, internal processes can be optimised and customer service improved.

It was particularly important for the Klavierfestival Ruhr to be able to manage ticketing independently and allow the Festival to remain self-sufficient.

Professor Franz Xaver Ohnesorg, Director of the Klavierfestival Ruhr, explains: “Ticketing today is becoming less about traditional sales channels such as the box office, and is shifting more to online. For us, the autonomy that comes with this is very important, especially as it does not involve excessive burdens in terms of costs and time.

We can also offer our audience additional services via  developments such as QR codes on tickets – e.g. information on the current coronavirus protection rules, on the parking situation for the respective concert halls and last but not least, “Intro To Go”, a 10-minute acoustic introduction to the respective concerts. We are very pleased about our close collaboration with Norbert Stockmann and his dedicated team to bring such innovations to our audiences.”

“The Klavierfestival Ruhr is a renowned festival with a long history. For us at SecuTix, this is a very demanding project, as numerous concerts take place in a wide variety of venues – from the Robert Schumann Hall in the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf to the historic city hall in Wuppertal. Ticketing is a huge part of the smooth operations of a festival”, says Norbert Stockmann, Managing Director DACH of SecuTix Germany.

“In SecuTix, we found an innovative and customer-orientated partner at our side, who brings to the table the latest and most modern developments in ticketing.”

“We are excited that the world-famous Klavierfestival Ruhr is digitising and has chosen SecuTix as their partner. We are looking forward to help shape the future of ticketing around the themes of technical development and digitisation with director Professor Franz Xaver Ohnesorg and his staff.”
